Samsung S5230 and S5600

Samsung has two new full touch screened phones that are targeted for the mid-to-lower level markets, which are the Samsung S5230 and S5600. We’ve already gave a preview of the S5600 as it was spotted at the MWC 2009, and now it is accompanied with another of such under the name, S5230.

The Samsung S5230 is another of those black thick touch screen phones in their range. It is a slim device packed with features such as 3-megapixel camera with smile shot and video recording function, 3.0-inch 240 x 400 pixels display with Touch Wiz UI and handwriting recognition, and multimedia player with support for various formats. Although this looks on the high-end, this doesn’t have support for Wi-Fi and 3G. This will also have Photo Contacts which allows users to call a certain contact by touching an image. It is equipped with 50MB of internal memory and is expandable to 8GB via microSD card slot.

The other one, which is the S5600 is also going to be a budget touch screen device. This will come in a much smaller screen at 2.8-inch with 240 x 320 pixels display and also with TouchWiz UI with mobile widgets. This will as well have 3-megapixel camera with Smile Shot and video recording capabilities and also a comprehensive multimedia player. The only difference perhaps is that this will have support for dual-band HSDPA 3.5G, but still with no Wi-Fi. It is equipped with 80MB internal memory and also expandable to 8GB.

Both phones will have FM Radio with RDS, and a Gesture Lock which lets users unlock and execute a certain menu by drawing a letter on the screen. It will be up to the user to decide which submenu will correspond to a certain letter.

The Samsung S5230 will be available to European stores by April, while the S5600 is expected to arrive by May.
