Toshiba launched the first ever 1GHz Snapdragon-powered smartphone last year, so it’s now time that they announce its successor. Indeed, the Toshiba TG02 was announced at the MWC, and this is believed to just actually have a minor update to its predecessor.

Just like the TG01, this Toshiba TG02 will also be powered by 1GHz Snapdragon processor and will be running on Windows Mobile 6.5 OS. This also has the same 4.1-inch WVGA touchscreen display, but surprisingly, it is much smaller in design and measures only 9.9mm thin. This also comes with newly retooled customized 3D user interface to complete.

Just recently, it is believed that the first Snapdragon phone in the world will hit UK, but on which carrier it would land remains unannounced not until now. The Toshiba TG01 will soon be hitting Orange UK as it appeared on their website with a “coming soon” statement.

After it has been released by DoCoMo in Japan, by Telefonica in Spain, and by O2 in Germany, the much talked about Toshiba TG01 will now land in UK though it is not yet confirmed on which carrier it would be offered.

What’s so intriguing about this device is that it is said to run faster than any other device with its Qualcomm 1GHz Snapdragon Chip processor.

Another interesting feature on this Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone is the large 4.1-inch WVGA touch screen display with Toshiba’s own 3D user interface and with a virtual track pad. It comes complete with HSDPA connectivity, Wi-Fi, GPS, and 3.2-megapixel camera.

The Toshiba TG01 has already surfaced on the internet since February and since then, no release date has ever made not until DoCoMo and Telefónica announced it just recently. The two carriers not only joined forces for the launch of this device, but also for “a joint study of possible services and applications for open OS handsets” in the future.

The Toshiba TG01 is the latest touch screen phone from the Japanese company which perhaps has everything firsts in the mobile industry. And since there have already been a lot of handsets claiming to be the iPhone killer, this could perhaps be another try for such.
