For the first time, Japanese electronics manufacturer Sharp, will be launching a solar-powered mobile phone outside their country. They have already released various solar-powered handsets in their homeland last year, and now it’s time to let neighboring countries have such.

Indeed, Sharp is gearing up to launch the Sharp SH6230C in China this February. This clamshell device will come equipped with a solar cell module on its back to let it charge with the help of the sun. Softbank mobile has just rolled out the Sharp Solar Hybrid 936SH 3G clamshell device. We’re not sure if this is the same SH-08A that we’ve featured back in July, but photos and specs almost look the same. The difference would have to be that of the carrier because the SH-08A is said to be released by NTT DoCoMo, while the 936SH is by Softbank.

So anyway, this device is indeed solar-powered with large solar panel on the front for charging. 10 minutes of charging under the sun should give you one minute of talk time or two hours of stand-by time. This is also resistant to water as it meets IPX5…

Japan’s leading mobile carrier, NTT DoCoMo has just announced a new device, which will be called the Sharp Solar Hybrid or the SH-08A.

This solar-powered device can be charged both through electricity or sunlight, with 10 minutes of solar charging equivalent to one minute of talk time.

Aside from that, this device also meets the IPX5 and IPX7 standard for being water resistant for 30minutes and up to 1-meter of water. This will also have 8-megapixel autofocus camera, which tells me that this is catered for those who go out often. Finally, the Nokia E72 has been officially announced after Nokia Conversations, a blog run by Nokia, accidentally posted a promo video of it on YouTube just a few days back. Sharp, along with AU KDDI is planning on releasing what would become the world’s first solar powered and waterproof device. This handset remains unnamed, though it looks like everything about this device is ready to be released.

If the phone pictured above is indeed this handset, then this sure is going to be an interesting mobile phone. The Sharp SH001 is another 8 megapixel phone that KDDI au will be releasing as part of their spring 2009 collection. The phone looks simple in its clamshell form but it actually makes it classy along with features that are only enough for a mobile phone.
